Scky Rei Releases Solo Album "DEMOS: If It Wasn't For You"
Scky Rei of BXTH has released his first solo project in seven years, entitled DEMOS: If It Wasn’t For You.
Read about the project below:
“A time capsule of music dedicated to my loved ones and the city that I come from on the northside that made a real one.” Skylar M. Reed aka Ky Ky, Sky Sky, Skyman, Grandpa, Scky Rei, or – just call him Skylar – reciting his truths and feelings in rhythmic form over-soulful, jazzy, boom bap productions and compositions. North Omaha-born and raised Rei’s tracks reflect a time of sadness, joy, and appreciation for his family and city though his time here so far.
The ten-track album is essentially a project of songs that were never released or finished, giving the album its title. Reaching as far back as 2014, many of the songs are filled with the thoughts and emotions Scky was having at the time. Rei says paying homage to his hometown, specifically North Omaha and his family is the purpose of the album.
Rei’s family history of music is rooted not only in his mother’s (Danita Carroll) singing and drill team dancing, but in his father, Hershel C. Reed, and the entire Reed family’s musical background; from church to stages across the United States. Scky's influences from family and his surrounding neighborhood are seen in glimpses in his voice and the content for the songs on the project, as it transitions through different stages of Scky’s professional and personal growth. All of which has led up to Rei now staking out in his own genre: Soul-Hop.
DEMOS: If It Wasn’t For You will let you explore Rei’s upbringing and pride that he has for his family, giving something for everyone to vibe, feel, or connect with.
“We all family just have to be more willing to unify our love versus expressing our hate or dislike. Think or re-think how a planting seed for growth can lead to garden for all to be nourished from. Instead of the norm of stealing from each other lets teach one another, 'educate myself, then my sister, then my brother'." Rei said.
